Barcode:
A barcode is a collection of vertical lines (bars) that together represent different characters. The bar code is scanned by a computer and translated into data. You can use a barcode to manage your loyalty, gift and discount card programs. You should contact your Point of Sales provider to find out what their exact barcode format is that should be used.
There are many different types of barcodes, including Code 128, Code 39, Code UPC-A (fixed length, allows only 12 digits) and Code EAN 13 (fixed length, allows only 13 digits). Some of these barcodes are alphanumeric.
The ones used most at the Plastic Card Factory are Code128 and Code 39. Code 39 is the most popular non-food standard barcode and is read by most scanners. However, Code 39 could print a relatively long bar code. Code 128 tends to produce very dense bar codes and not all readers read Code 128, so before you commit to using Code128, verify that your reader is 128 compatible. Depending on the type of barcode you use, make sure you allow for enough space on the card.
